If you’ve ever had little learners who can say numbers but struggle to truly understand them, this themed activity was created to bridge that gap.

The Baking Numbers Game is a hands-on, gingerbread-themed math activity designed to build strong number sense through counting, matching, and ten-frame practice. Children work with cookie sheet mats featuring ten frames (or ten frames and numerals) and a set of gingerbread cookies to count (or numerals to identify and name) giving them repeated opportunities to connect numbers with quantities in a meaningful, visual way.

The perfect activity for little learners who can say numbers but struggle to truly understand them. Learners count gingerbread cookies and build a coordinating ten frame,  strengthening one-to-one correspondence and quantity recognition. Two different recording sheets are included to extend learning, reinforce understanding, and provide an easy way to check progress.

This engaging activity will move learners from rote counting to true number understanding. It’s simple to prep, engaging to use, and flexible for a wide range of abilities, making it a reliable go-to for math centers, small groups, independent work, or at-home learning.

Optional challenge prompts are included with suggestions to make the activity more or less challenging, allowing you to easily differentiate and meet learners where they are.
