This lesson on exploring numbers works for students who need more to challenge them, as well as those who need more practice adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers.

Students will be so engaged looking for palindromes, they won’t realize they are getting additional math practice. This lesson teaches students to find palindromes by reversing the order of their numbers and adding. For example 52 + 25 will give them the palindromic number 77. With some numbers they will need to go one step further. For example,

57 + 75 = 132 If they reverse the order of 132 and add 231, they will arrive at the palindromic number 363. Take your students beyond math formulas and let them enjoy exploring what numbers can do!!
