Teacher Ms H - Third Is the Word

I have taught elementary school since 2000, with most of my experience teaching 3rd grade in Title 1 schools with bilingual Spanish-speaking students. Currently, I’m working as a Reading and Writing Specialist. I have also taught 2nd, 4th grade, and 5th grade. Plus, I have subbed in K-5 classrooms. Earlier in my career, I worked as a preschool teacher assistant, ran an after-school program, and worked at summer camps during college. One thing I am proud of is that I learned to speak Spanish, even though I grew up in an English-speaking home. Although I took many classes in high school and college, I struggled to communicate well with native speakers. So a group of teachers and I attended a language academy in Costa Rica to improve our listening and speaking skills further. I love to mentor new teachers and have served as a California BTSA Mentor for many years. I also have been a workshop presenter on topics including Reading Strategies, Math Interventions, Whole Brain Teaching, Classroom Management, and Technology in the Classroom.
