Description
This is a 5-day lesson plan pack, with resources and rubrics, that teaches students how constellations move across the sky due the the rotation and revolution of the Earth, as well as, incorporating opportunities for informative and creative writing. Through the five days, students will learn about constellations in several ways. Students will first learn that stars and constellations appear to move or shift across the sky overnight and throughout the year because of the rotation and revolution of the Earth around the Sun through a hands-on and engaging activity. Students will also read and do research on which seasons certain constellations can be seen in the Northern Hemisphere, as well as, the stories from different cultures that explain different constellations. Students will then create their own constellation, with its own story, and will work with a group to combine their constellations and the constellations they studied on a group star finder.
*Standards are written for Florida State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, which are close, but not identical, to Common Core Standards.*
