Turn your place value review into an exciting adventure with this 2nd Grade Place Value Escape Room! Your students will use teamwork and problem solving skills to practice number forms, comparing numbers, and counting by 5’s, 10’s, and 100’s.

Easy set-up:

Simply fill a box with a special treat – pencils, erasers, lollipops, etc. Then, use a 4-digit lock to lock the box. The last clue will give your students the code to unlock it. Another option is to use a lock with a key. Then, you can just give the students the key when they get the correct answer for the last clue.

Put the clues into envelopes and give them to the groups of students when they are ready for them.

How It Works:

1. Group Formation: Each student gets a place value card. To find their team, they must match cards with others who have the same number written in different forms.
2. Clue #1: Convert numbers from expanded form, word form, and place value blocks to standard form.
3. Clue #2: Compare numbers using <, >, and = symbols.
4. Clue #3: Identify number patterns by counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s.
5. Clue #4: Solve place value riddles using logic and teamwork.

Once all four clues are solved, students will crack the final code and unlock the box to claim their prize!
