Description
This simple cut-and-stick activity invites children to sort matching pictures into “big” and “small” on two easy-to-use sorting boards. Children cut out the images and decide whether each one belongs on the big board or the small board.
Why use this activity?
It’s a fun, hands-on way to help children understand the concept of size. As they compare the pictures, they practise noticing differences and talking about what makes something big or small. Cutting and sticking also supports fine motor development, while sorting encourages thinking skills and builds everyday vocabulary linked to size.
When can it be used?
Perfect for early years and early primary classrooms, as well as for older children with special educational needs who are working on size comparison. It works well in small groups, during maths centres, or as an independent workstation task.
You can use it as a one-off lesson, or laminate the boards and pictures and add Velcro dots to turn it into a reusable, hands-on resource.
