Description

🕵️ AI Bias Detectives

Give your students a hands-on way to understand how AI bias happens and who it affects. In this unplugged case file activity, learners act as Bias Detectives working for the “AI Investigation Bureau.” They move through four real-world examples of biased algorithms and gather evidence about the problem, who is impacted, and how the issue could be fixed.

Designed for Grades 7–10, this lesson makes abstract AI concepts concrete using relatable scenarios like book recommendations, photo tagging, homework apps, and club suggestion tools. Each case is inspired by real challenges seen in AI systems and aligns naturally with themes from Common Sense Education’s AI Literacy Lessons 5 and 6.

This activity works beautifully in digital citizenship units, computer science classes, debate or ethics extensions, or any lesson exploring fairness in technology.
